Welcome to the official site of Matadi Gateway Terminal

Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT) welcomes you to its website, which is your gateway to information and communication for the ICTSI terminal in Matadi, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Overview

In January 2014 International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), through its subsidiary ICTSI Cooperatif U.A., entered a joint venture agreement with La Société De Gestion Immobilière Lengo (SIMOBILE) to develop a container and general cargo terminal on the Congo River at Mbengu Matadi, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

ICTSI and SIMOBILE established ICTSI DR Congo S.A. (IDRCSA) to build, manage and operate the Matadi Gateway Terminal (MGT).
The terminal commenced operations initially with one berth in mid-june 2016 and at the end 2016 moved into full operation with the completion of the second berth. Each berth is 175m in length and annual terminal capacity is 175,000TEU and 350,000 tonnes of general cargo. A doubling of capacity has been planned via the implementation of a Phase 2 development as demand warrants.

Matadi is one of the cities of Kongo Central Province located along the Congo River in  DRC and one of the main import/export gateway for the whole of the DR Congo. The port is approximately 150 kilometres up-stream from the Atlantic Ocean.

The Matadi Gateway Terminal has realised a significant modernization of port operations in the DR Congo.  MGT is on exchange of views with CVM and the Government for the dredging area of the seabeach to allow large international lines to dock directly in Matadi and to end the country's dependence on the ports of neighboring countries located on the ocean.
